A VETERAN’S CRY
A HOME. A FAMILY LEGACY.
A FIGHT FOR DUE PROCESS.
I’m Luis Munroe—a Marine combat veteran, photographer, father, artist, and lifelong New Yorker.
After my parents passed away in 2018, I asked New York University for additional time to gather the documents needed to prove my residency in the childhood apartment where I was raised.
That request was denied.
What followed became a years-long fight for my home, my rights, and a fair opportunity to be heard.

THIS IS MORE THAN AN APARTMENT
This is the home where I was raised.
It holds my childhood, my parents’ history, and decades of family memories. It represents my connection to the neighborhood and city that made me who I am.
After losing both of my parents, I was forced to fight to protect the home and family legacy they left behind.
This is not only a fight against eviction.
It is a fight for fairness, disability rights, due process, and the opportunity to have my evidence fully heard.
Engineered Precision, Delivered
A DAVID-AND-GOLIATH FIGHT
New York University has attorneys, money, influence, and institutional power.
I am representing myself while managing PTSD, depression, health challenges, and the emotional weight of fighting for my childhood home.
I believe the process has focused more on removing me from the apartment than giving me a fair opportunity to establish the rights I already had.
But I am still here.
I am still standing.
And I am still fighting.

My camera became a way to survive depression, preserve memories, and document the New York City that raised me.
